Description of the Business Line or Department
The Credit Risk Department in Kleinwort Hambros manages the client credit risk of the Kleinwort Hambros business.

We are primarily responsible for the approval of client lending, the monitoring of the ongoing loan book and collateral value, second line riskmanagement of problem debts and recoveries.


Summary of the key purposes of the role

  • To work with Relationship Managers in the management of problem and default debts. Engaging and liaising with the Banks internal Legal department and where necessary external professionals to ensure the Banks position is protected as far as possible anddefault/recovery actions are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Management of the Kleinwort Hambros Watch / Default list process, ensuring all reporting is kept up to date on individual files and collectively for internal reporting.
  • Maintaining and updating of Problem Debt reporting Tools Including Defwatch / ECL calculator and Risk Committee & Board packs.
  • Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk and acting as the Subject Matter Expert for Risk in the Management of Problem debts/Watch list / Default Files.
  • Providing support to the Credit Approval Team as necessary in the day to day analysis and approval of performing lending.

Summary of responsibilities

  • Regular liaison with Relationship Managers re problem lending clients. Ensure appropriate action plans are in place and are being followed. Providing advice and guidance as necessary.
  • For Recovery situations, taking a more active role in the liaison with Internal Legal and other external professionals as necessary e.g. External Counsel; Receivers etc.
  • Be primarily responsible for the maintenance of the Watch list and DefWatch system. Ensuring all records are kept up to date and internal reporting is accurate.

Competencies

  • Experience of Problem debt management and Recovery processes.
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory Lending environment
  • Sound Credit or Banking Legal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Clear Communication skills
  • Numerate
  • Adept at Excel competent at spreadsheet/data base maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Legal remedies available to Bank in Debt recovery situations
  • Able to deal professionally with external suppliers i.e. Lawyer; Receivers; Valuers.
  • Previous experience of client relationship management would be an advantage.
