We are looking for a Speech & Language Therapist to join us in our CLDT who has had placement experience in this field or has a strong interest in Adult Learning Disabilities.


You will require:

Good organisational skills

Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

A focus on person-centred support and planning

An understanding of the importance of being a team player with a genuine desire to support ALD population

A willingness to work flexibly in dynamic environments

The ability to take direction from Senior colleagues


You will be supported fully by your Lead SLT to develop your assessment and intervention skills to deliver an evidence based SLT service to meet the needs of this complex adult client group.


You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and competencies within the fields of dysphagia and AAC systems both with internal support and external training.


You will also be supported to train others within the CLDT and to train the support workers of the service users you care for.

You will be supported with resources to deliver the highest quality service.


You will be a part of a small locality based SLT team with SLT Assistant support but you will also have access to a network nearly 90 SLT's within the CNTW Trust.


To provide speech and language therapy to service users who have a variety of communication needs, diverse presentations and a range of physical, cognitive and/or mental health conditions, under the supervision of a more experienced speech and language therapist.

To deliver evidenced based speech and language interventions, as over-seen by senior clinicians.

To contribute to reviews and discharge planning, where appropriate.


To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered, which ensures safety, promotes recovery and maximises independence.

To ensure carers and family are involved in care planning where appropriate.

To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity. To provide clinical supervision to assistants and support workers.

The adult community learning disability service covers a wide geographical location in Cumbria and offers bases in both Lillyhall Workington, and Carlton clinic in Carlisle.


We work mainly in the community supporting patients within their own home, or supported services which includes families, carers and other support teams.
