The laboratory is looking for a talented, enthusiastic and highly-motivated post-doctoral research associate with a strong interest in host:parasite interactions and immunology.

You will be expected to conduct individual and collaborative research projects both within the Department of Biology and with external collaborators to further our understanding of the molecular mechanisms used by the helminth _Schistosoma mansoni_ to establish chronic infections in its human host.

You will use a range of biochemical and cellular approaches to investigate host:

parasite protein:
protein interactions involved in host immune modulation during infection. You will also use serological studies to investigate the host humoral response associated with protection from re-infection.


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:


  • PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related areas, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge in parasitology, immunology and/or biochemistry to engage in high quality research
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies including tissue culture, molecular biology, recombinant protein production and purification, cellbased immune assays
  • Experience in mammalian and/or insect cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry; additional experience in flow cytometry, cellular immune assays and/or surface plasmon resonance is desirable
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research
  • Ability to write up research work for publication and engage in public dissemination
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality
