Job Summary Assist in the provision of Library services and the development of a proactive information and knowledge management service for South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

To provide support through training, research, and advice for those using the services within the districts of Wakefield, Kirklees, Calderdale and Barnsley localities.

The post holder will work as part of a small team providing library, information, health promotion and knowledge management services.

The post holder will be directly accountable to the Library manager, and although primarily based at Fieldhead Hospital, will be required to deliver services across the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.


Key result areas:
Knowledge Management - Trust Library Services 1. To manage all aspects of the local delivery of library services e.g. selection, processing, classification, cataloguing & circulation of materials, inter library loans, current awareness, etc 2.

To provide a user focused and responsive information service, and to ensure that all enquiries are dealt with promptly and effectively.


  • To facilitate and coordinate literature search training sessions across the Trust, providing tuition and evidence based searches where necessary, e.g. use of Internet, Intranet, critical appraisal, NHS Athens electronic databases and electronic journals. 4.


Provide library and health promotion services to external organisations through service level agreements and to students on placement within the Trust localities.

To provide appropriate induction, guidance and training to users of the library service to ensure their effective use of resources.

To promote and market Library and Health Promotion services across the Trust using appropriate means. 7.

To be a member of the library user group and liaise with any user groups on the provision of and access to relevant information.

To provide monthly usage reports to the Library manager. 9.

To ensure access to the library and health promotion collections by appropriate classification systems, electronic catalogue and databases, and appropriate signage and guidance.

To maintain a good understanding of developments in clinical governance and evidence-based healthcare in order to support Trust policy and offer guidance to library users.

13. To liaise with any outside agencies necessary for the provision of an efficient, cost effective service. Liaise with librarians within the district, network with librarians regionally and nationally as appropriate.


  • To undertake continuous personal development and to participate in training. 15. To form part of the Integrated Change Team, and to attend team and other meetings as required 16.
To assist and support in the development and running of the knowledge management service 17.

To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade that may be delegated by the Library manager Training/Education 1.

Provide group and individual training, advice and support for NHS Athens users and the Athens Administrator for the Trust and adhere to use and access regulations.

Provide information skills training for Trust staff and students on placement including use of database native interfaces (Ovid, Ebsco and Proquest).

3. Ensure consistency in training offered across the Trust. 4.

Contribute to training courses and induction processes as appropriate providing information regarding the use of the Library service. 5. Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) relevant to the post. 6.

Show a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, e.g. undertake mandatory training as required. Quality/Evaluation Implement evaluation and other quality control measures e.g. service user evaluations, audit and stock checks, etc.

Health and Safety/ Risk Management The post holder must comply at all times with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trusts health & safety policies, by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts incident reporting system.
