About Us:

The Peak District National Park was Britain's first National Park established in 1951 as a result of its international significance and outstanding landscape, built heritage and wildlife.

With its close proximity to a number of large towns and cities around a third of the UK population live within an hour of the Park.

The Park is multifaceted with its rugged landscape, precious habitats which are vital in tackling climate change along with wildlife populations, mineral sites, and urban communities.

This almost unique combination presents a set of exciting challenges for all who work at the Authority.

The Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) have two core statutory purposes, these are:

Conserving and enhancing natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage whilst
Promoting opportunities for understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the area by the public

We have big ambitions and an aspirational long-term vision outlining where we want the Peak District to be by 2043.

The UK's National Parks have a huge role to play in nature recovery, meeting net zero ambitions, delivering thriving communities and helping with the nation's well being.

As part of the Senior Management Team, reporting to the Chief Executive and heading up one of the four Services, you will play a vital role in helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the National Park.

This is a multidisciplinary service area focused on Finance, Legal, Information - including IT, communications and customer liaison, and People Management.

Here you will be responsible for making a difference by leading, shaping and developing the provision of corporate resources and internal operations in order to deliver on the Authority's plan.

As Head of Service you will be interacting with a range of colleagues, stakeholders and different audiences.

In order to achieve the potential within this service the successful individual will need to continue the journey of creating and driving a new culture for the team, integrating the different functions, whilst immersing themselves and the team in a number of critical projects such as a new finance system implementation and a revised approach to legal provision.

The Successful Applicant:

You must have previous experience of managing, developing and inspiring multi-discipline teams and the ability to take these individuals on a journey of change.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are key, whilst being able to collaborate and partner with multiple stakeholders including employees, government agencies, community groups and the general public.

Strong organisational and project management skills will be critical in order to succeed as there will be plenty of competing requests and needs.

This is a critical appointment and in order to fulfil the Authority's potential an inquisitive, ambitious individual with good strategic vision, substantial operational experience who can think beyond financial boundaries plus a passion for the long-term vision and plan is needed to head up this Service.
