Information Management Apprenticeship

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has now become commonplace in the UK construction industry and the Digital Built Britain strategy intends to build on the technology and processes, all built assets will eventually have a 'Digital Twin' and the Information Management role is integral to delivering this strategy.

Information Management spans across a variety of sectors and industries such as construction and engineering, the role is to support the management of critical information during the delivery phase of a project and facilitate the management of the information during the operational phase of the resulting asset.

The Information Manager ensures that information meets the required standard and is managed effectively, ensuring the value is understood, maximised and reused.

It enables efficiencies throughout an asset's lifecycle, from inception to in use, and provides the opportunity to develop further insight or innovation by using the data in more effective ways.

Built assets require management of information consistent with industry standards and approaches and the Information Manager is required to ensure compliance, you will be a procedural gatekeeper, managing a shared source of information called the common data environment (CDE) ensuring it follows the agreed project procedures and that the data is accurate, whether the information is created in a BIM environment or in a conventional data format.

You will interact with a broad range of stakeholders and facilitate collaboration between project team members and holistically address the requirements for documentation, data and models, supporting the delivery of information through the management of integrated systems, processes and people.

There is an increasing demand for Information Management in the industry and the role is becoming more prevalent, there is career development and the experience you will acquire is applicable to other roles, such as Project Management, you will also learn other valuable skillsets in the industry, such as BIM coordination and coding.
