Broomfield Hospital is offering a months fellowship in regional anaesthesia.

The focus of the post is to develop mastery in the wide range of regional anaesthesia (RA) techniques utilised as part of perioperative care in a busy acute district general hospital.

You will be supervised by consultants experienced in RA.

The appointment is aimed at Stage 3.2 for trainees who have a special interest in regional anaesthesia (at time of post commencement), or trainees during their Period of Grace who not only wish to enhance their own skills in RA, but are motivated to deliver RA training both within the department and at external meetings.


We currently perform a substantial number of single shot nerve blocks for peri-operative pain management and also peripheral nerve catheter service to provide continuous regional anaesthesia in selected cases.

The case mix will offer the post holder a balanced exposure to both emergency and elective - upper limb, lower limb, truncal, chest wall and central neuraxial anaesthesia.

You will also learn to identify and manage inadequate or failed blocks using multiple analgesic and anaesthetic modalities.

Main duties of the job The clinical work includes Plastic Trauma/Hand trauma lists, elective/emergency cases and/or lists involving regional anaesthesia, on-call / night shifts commitments covering general and/or plastic trauma pro-rota.
