We're looking for a super organised, self-motivated individual who can rise to a challenge to join our amazing team as a safety & compliance technologist.


Key responsibilities

  • Overseeing new, high profile and highrisk product development. Working closely with the publishing and buying teams to ensure our products are designed in line with our target age ranges, meet our sustainability targets regarding plastic and packaging, and carrying out risk assessments.
  • Troubleshooting and reviewing all testing failures. Working with our buying team and safety laboratories to improve materials and components ensuring full compliance to relevant standards.
  • Reviewing BOMs, BOSs, MSDS and TRAs received from suppliers.
  • Reviewing safety labelling on all products; ensuring information is relevant and updated as per legislation requirements.
  • Keeping up to date on global legislation relevant to our products and ensuring information is filtered through to the required teams.
  • Heading up implementation of all new customer technical requirements such as: testing protocols, inspections, and factory audits.
  • Working closely with factories on setting up retailer audits inhouse and troubleshooting where CAP's are required.
  • Onboarding all new suppliers. Reviewing audits and facility documentation. Carrying out research to validate certification.
  • Ensuring all successfully onboarded suppliers maintain a level of CSR in line with our point of call for all retailers technical, QA and sustainability requirements.
  • Attending webinars and conferences to ensure full compliance to retailer's goals and targets.
  • Working closely with the sales teams to provide technical and sustainability data and advice.
  • Representing the company at the Book Chain Project's quarterly meetings.
  • Leading the R&D sustainability team alongside the production director. Spearheading research and developing strategies to reduce our plastic footprint.
  • Keeping up to date with Plastic & Packaging Tax and Extended Producer Responsibility Tax. Reporting the impact these have on our future products.
  • Sustaining a successful relationship between Igloo Books and our chosen laboratories.
  • Line management of the junior safety technologist. Maintaining a happy and productive work environment and completing ad hoc admin tasks such as holiday sign offs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with the Toy Safety Directive & REACH legislation is essential.
  • The ability to communicate with testing labs, and to read testing reports is essential.
  • To be able to read and communicate out test results to the wider team, and discuss possible corrective action plans
  • A keen interest in sustainability and a willingness to improve our products to make them as environmentally sustainable as possible.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational and problemsolving skills, as well as a cando attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including communicating with suppliers, customers, and internal teams across many levels.
