Main Duties

  • To assist and supervise the provision of both food and beverage services within designated retail outlets in line with operational standards. This will include the inhouse barista and restaurant services and food production. Ensuring the delivery of exemplary customer service and products served to the highest standards of quality and presentation. Supervising Retail Assistants preparing and serving food and beverages to customers in the cafés and restaurants.
  • To oversee the daily opening of the retail outlets and ensure that the different operational areas are correctly prepared in line with departmental standards at the beginning of the working day and shut down in accordance with departmental protocols at the end of the day.
  • Supervision of inhouse clearing and cleaning, to include the servery, food preparation areas, store room and internal and external customer areas.
  • To maintain and monitor food and beverage stock items to include stock ordering, rotation and product placement/merchandising and ensure that all operational areas are restocked and secure. Maintaining acceptable stock levels and undertaking timely stock takes.
  • To be responsible for the security of the outlets stock, fixtures and fittings and to operate and maintain all catering equipment in accordance with departmental procedures and manufacturer's instructions. Reporting any faults with equipment or infrastructure to maintenance and line manager.
  • To supervise the handling of cash and credit cards transactions on a daily basis, following cash handling procedures and cash register policies, ensuring the safe keeping of cash floats and completion of corresponding documentation.
  • To identify operational problems quickly and implement solutions, to train staff in accordance with departmental procedures and in conjunction with the Retail Manager.
  • Assisting with the induction of and providing ongoing, onthejob training for new or inexperienced staff.
  • To undertake daily operational checks as directed by Retail Manager and to provide operational information on request in accordance with departmental reporting standards.
  • The above list of duties is not exclusive and from time to time the Management team may specify other duties commensurate with the post holder grade.
  • Covering other general duties within the scope of the grade during periods of variation in workload or cover for sickness absence both within the usual work or other University operations.

General Duties

  • To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
  • Compliance with Licensing Act, HASAW 1974, Allergen Legislation and Food Safety Act 1990 requirements in line with Cardiff University Food Safety Policy and all other University Policies, ensuring all paperwork relating to environmental health and food safety is continually updated and submitted when required.
  • As a member of staff with supervisory responsibilities you will also be responsible for ensuring that University policy and procedures and legal duties are applied within your areas and that appropriate risk assessments are undertaken, necessary actions are implemented and staff within your area are fully conversant and trained in respect of their Health and Safety obligations.
  • To assist in the investigation and preparation of reports / documents on individual projects as requested.
  • To actively participate in the Quality and Customer Care initiatives.
  • To attend and actively participate in all training as identified by Retail Manager and Head of Catering and Foodservice.
The role will require a flexible approach to working hours and is 5 days out of 7.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Proven track record of supervising and inspiring a team within a busy café / restaurant environment to an excellent standard and methodology, with an understanding/experience of customer service practices. Demonstrating knowledge of current issues, modern trends, nutrition, allergens.
  • Proven work experience in resource and logístical planning, in addition to supervising others and stock control.
  • Awareness of and implementation of seasonal factors on menus and experience of local sourcing.
  • Pleasant and welcoming manner. Demonstrating experience of working in a customer focused environment with an ability to respond to customer feedback and needs in a polite and courteous manner adapting to their requirements accor
