Description

Applications are invited for a research position in the research group of Professor Steve Liddle to work on actinide metal-metal bonding chemistry.

The position will build on our recent report of thorium-thorium bonding (Nature
2021, 598, 72-75), and aims to develop our fundamental understanding of the chemistry of actinide-actinide bonding interactions through a combined synthetic, reactivity, magnetism, spectroscopic, and computational programme of work.

- and moisture-sensitive compounds routinely, using Schlenk line and Glove-Box techniques, and you will prepare and characterise new organometallic/coordination compounds using a range of techniques, including: X-ray crystallography, NMR, EPR, IR, UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, magnetometry, and elemental analyses. There will be opportunities to gain hands-on experience of other techniques as well as undertaking spectroscopic measurements at UK and EU collaborator institutions.

Our University is positive about flexible working - you can find out more here

Blended working arrangements may be considered
