Description

Purpose of the role
To identify and follow the best practice within the kitchen. To ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, making sure it is maintained and safe.

To ensure each individual child has their dietary needs met, helping to provide incredible service to each family, so that they get what they want, creating a friendly relationship with all parents.

To ensure the food and drink offered to the children is of the highest standard, according to nursery policy and procedure.


Key tasks

Preparing meals and drink:


  • To prepare and cook the meals and snack, serving them at the required time, following the recipes.
  • To prepare food and drink according to individual requirements and preferences, following the nursery policies and procedures.
  • To prepare baby food at the appropriate texture and following nursery procedures.
  • Taking small groups of children to do activities with them. Teaching them the value of healthy menus and also teaching them about good personal hygiene and food preparation.

Smooth Running of the Kitchen & Best Practice Food Preparation

  • To know the nursery policies and procedures and work within them at all times and knowing the roles and responsibilities of the chef.
  • To understand the nursery's vision and business plan and understand how their role and actions make a difference.
  • To ensure the food and drink is taken out into the rooms when meal times are finished.
  • To ensure the dirty dishes, cutlery and crockery are collected and cleaned, throughout the day.
  • To ensure water jugs and cups are provided and replaced as necessary throughout the day.
  • To use designated areas to carry out designated tasks.
  • To maintain effective stock rotation.
  • To keep stock up to date and order in appropriate amounts, ensuring we purchase from reputable suppliers and order economically.
  • To set out for breakfast the following day.
  • To manage the quantities cooked, ensuring there is enough for seconds, if requested, but we do not over cook, making sure food and utilities sensibly and economically.
  • To think of improvements and feed them through the management team, so Little Bears can be as adventurous as possible.

Hygiene/safety:


  • To maintain best standards cleaning, completing charts accordingly, to carry out monthly tasks (e.g. defrosting the freezer and cleaning the tops of work tops, under benches etc), and manage others to do so.
  • To manage the maintenance of the kitchen.
  • To monitor and complete temperature controls chart.
  • To comply with the nursery dress code.
  • To ensure the kitchen is opened up safely each morning
  • To ensure the kitchen is cleaned and cleared throughout the day and close it down at the end of the night.
  • To follow the nursery policies (e.g. health and safety and food intolerances process).
To keep up to date by attending relevant courses.


Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 16 per week


Salary:
From £9.60 per hour


Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Newcastle Upon Tyne: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
