The Head of School of Sport, Exercise and Applied Sciences will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the School, driven by a commitment to teaching and learning, the student experience, partnerships, research, and knowledge exchange.


Job Details


In line with St Mary's vision and values, the Head of School of Sport, Exercise and Applied Sciences will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the School, driven by a commitment to teaching and learning, the student experience, partnerships, research, and knowledge exchange.

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, the Head of School will manage the academic staff and resources in the School, to deliver high-quality services to students.

As a member of the Faculty's Leadership Team, the Head of School will be responsible for local implementation of Faculty and University-wide initiatives, and for ensuring the School is compliant with all relevant legal, procedural, and policy frameworks.

Sport, Exercise and Applied Sciences and Allied Health and Life Sciences.


The Faculty works closely with relevant professional bodies and organisations in each discipline, to ensure that graduates develop the skills needed for their future careers.

The Faculty has a thriving research culture as demonstrated by our recent success in the REF 2021 submission where 87% of our sport-based research outputs were rated as world leading or internationally excellent, which outperformed the national average.

We are also excited to share that 100% of our submitted impact case studies were rated as world leading or internationally excellent.
