Description

The principle purpose of the post is to support the provision of mental health services, through the CAMHS Emotional Wellbeing Service, into the Youth Offending Service.


The post is aimed at meeting the mental health needs of young people up to their 18thbirthday who are involved with the Youth Offending Service.

Due to the needs of the service, there will be a requirement for the post holder to work flexibly.


The post holder will be both a member of the Halton Youth Offending Team and the Halton Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

The Practitioner will provide comprehensive mental health assessments, implement treatment strategies, monitor and review the treatment outcomes.

Additionally the post holder will offer an advice, liaison and consultation service to colleagues within the Halton Youth Offending Service and input into relevant training or health promotion programmes within the Youth Offending Service.

Accept and screen referrals using the appropriate assessment documentation and screening tools, within the timescales described by performance indicators.


Undertake and document risk assessments and risk management of young people experiencing mental health problems within the Youth Offending Service as part of the comprehensive assessment.

Organise own caseloads and work schedules in agreement with line manager.

Produce a clinical formulation and intervention plan founded on evidence based practice in co-operation with the young person and their family

Engage/facilitate the signposting of young people who require additional or alternative Services.

Participate in a range of therapeutic interventions underpinned by specialist knowledge and theory.

Clinical skills and responsibilities

Provide clinical sessions at relevant venues that are convenient for the young person and comply with the Trust policies and procedures.

Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using a range of interpersonal skills, Supervision and standard evaluation measures.

Provide support and training to the Youth Offending Team around mental health issues.

Identify and respond appropriately to Child Protection issues, as described within the guidelines of Halton Local Children's Safeguarding Board.

Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.

Identify supervision needs and attend clinical supervision as appropriate.

Ensure clinical knowledge and skills are kept up to date in relation to core professional qualification.


Actively participate in professional supervision, ensuring arrangements are maintained, including where necessary specialist therapeutic supervision appropriate for specialist areas and undertake relevant training aligned with the post holder's Personal Development Plan.

Act as a knowledge resource in specialist area to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and other service related meetings as appropriate.

Implements policies and proposes changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.

Contribute to the development, delivery and monitoring and evaluation of appropriate group work programmes.
