Clinical Physician Associate - Nexus Health Group, Southwark

37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday

We are looking for enthusiastic Physician Associates to join the Nexus team at Surrey Docks Health Centre in North Southwark.


Surrey Docks Health Centre is a modern purpose built premises that opened in 2015 on the Canada Water peninsula within easy reach of Canada Water station and nearby shops and restaurants.

The practice looks after a population of 11,000 patients with a diverse mix including many young families.


It is a well-established GP training practice and has a multi professional clinical team including GPs, ANP, Physician Associate and Paramedic as well as full nursing team.

A number of PCN ARRS roles are also support our patients including Mental Health Practitioner, First Contact Physiotherapist and pharmacists.

Many of the reception and administrative team live locally and have worked at the practice for many years.

We have had 4 years' experience of training preceptor PA's and working with PA's in the Nexus team.


We currently employ 12 Physician Associates across the group and are looking to expand our team with experienced Physician Associate posts providing opportunities for leadership and career development.


Your working week

  • Clinical sessions of 12 x 15minute appointments with mix of face to face, telephone consultations and econsultations.
  • 2 extra appointments per session for follow up and continuity of care managed by yourselves
  • 40min of admin time per session for Docman, results and medication reviews
  • 1 session per week remote working econsultations in our ehub or telephone consultations if working full time.
  • Fortnightly session for continuing professional development pro rata in line with Nexus strategy and PDP with the view to develop special interests within Nexus.
  • Weekly site team meetings to discuss clinical cases, learning events and organisational developments.
  • Monthly PA learning group

Job Purpose:


  • The role will provide a Physician Associate resource for health care professionals and service users, working in collaboration with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • To work within the community, as an autonomous, accountable, Physician Associate in the provision of a holistic approach for individuals including assessment, diagnosis and treatment, to deliver quality patient services.
  • To assess, diagnose, treat, refer or signpost patients/service users who attend surgery with undifferentiated or undiagnosed condition relating to minor illness or minor injury.
  • The post holder will use advanced clinical skills to provide education to service users, promoting selfcare and empower them to make informed choices about their treatment.
  • To support Nexus to develop positive and effective working relationships and communication systems between Nexus and NHS England, CCG, NHS providers, GP Federation, Patient Participation Group and other external bodies and stakeholders.

Clinical:


The post holder will;

  • Participate in all treatment and preventative healthcare services in the Practice as delegated and agreed by the supervising GP(s).
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients using established clinical guidelines.
  • Consult and refer patients to physicians, medical specialists and other health professionals as indicated.
  • Interview patients, take medical histories, perform physical examinations, analyse, diagnose and explain medical problems during surgery consultations and home visits.
  • Recommend and explain appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment.
  • Request and interpret results of laboratory investigations when necessary.
  • Perform specialised diagnostic physical exams and treatment procedures.
  • Instruct and educate patients in preventative health care.
  • Conduct telephone consultations which may involve discussing the result and implications of labor
