Description
The University Of Northampton require a temporary switchboard operative to support the existing team.


The purpose of the role is to act as the 1st point of contact for anyone calling the University via the main switchboard telephone number, politely and efficiently assessing the callers needs to redirect to the most appropriate team or individual within the University.


Duties and responsibilities

Manage external and internal telephone calls, politely and efficiently handling requests to redirect the caller to the appropriate team or individual within the University.

Liaise with HR and other teams in the University to ensure the staff directory is up to date.


Receive, direct and respond to queries from staff, students, contractors, visitors and tenants as appropriate, taking messages and forwarding them to the correct person.

Report faults with the equipment/software to IT and chase to a conclusion to ensure continuity of service.


Agree parameters for reporting on the function with IT and ensure monthly switchboard data is available for review by the University.

Contribute to the formulation and implementation of procedures to ensure best practice within the area of responsibility.


To support the Helpdesk Administrator during peak call activity times, answering telephone calls and recording information in the CAFM system.


Skills and experience
Education to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Mathematics

Customer Service Training or equivalent experience in an applicable industry

Skills, Knowledge and Experience 3 Excellent IT skills, with knowledge of MS Office

Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels

Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

Ability to adapt to organisational change

Ability to adapt to technological advances in the workplace

A flexible approach to the working environment and hours of operation

Friendly and efficient telephone manner with the ability to cope with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Able to work under pressure, managing conflicting demands

Additional information
Please note this is a temporary role for one month in the first instance.

The working hours will be Mon - Fri 1pm - 6pm.


Job Types:

Salary:
£12.00 per hour
