Job Description:


Please note this is a full time role working 37.5 hours a week - Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 till 17:00.
The purpose of this role is to ensure delivery of service in relevant section of the laboratory in line with the accreditation standard and expectation of key accounts and efficient day-to-day operation of the relevant section of the laboratory required


Main duties to include:

  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner
  • Supervision of staff in relevant section of the laboratory to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory
  • To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets
  • Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment
  • Advise Laboratory Manager/Coordinator without delay of any problems affecting operations in relevant area of the laboratory
  • Ensuring that any relevant paperwork related to the production of media is kept up to date
  • Responsible for maintaining some stock inventory in relevant areas of the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual
  • Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard
  • Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team.
  • Lead site induction and Health and Safety induction for new starters.
  • Responsible for promoting a professional image of the Company and for complying with the company's Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policies at all times, including work related events which take place outside normal working hours
  • A flexible approach to work will be required to help assist other departments as and when required.
  • Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the line manager
  • Act as a deputy to the Laboratory Manager/Laboratory Coordinator and Training Manager/ Training Coordinator.

Qualifications:


  • Degree or equivalent in science.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc.
  • Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
  • Good organisational and technical problemsolving skills.
  • Capable of working well under pressure.
  • Ability to motivate a team at times of fluctuating workloads.
  • Reliable and thorough.
  • Willing to take on responsibility.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Strong management skills of for performance/absence management.
  • Full commitment to meeting customers expectation.
  • A passion for providing a safe working environment.
