Description

We are seeking to appoint two highly enthusiastic Consultants in Acute Oncology Medicine to join our forward-looking teams of Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioners and Acute Oncology Navigators predominately at Margate and Ashford.

The successful post holders will be part of the Palliative Care Consultant team but will have the responsibility of providing medical support and leadership to the Acute Oncology Service with the aim of providing comprehensive and collaborative services to patients with suspected or known cancer.

We have a well-established Nurse led Acute Oncology Service providing a 7-day cross site support service for patients with known or suspected cancer on both emergency and non-emergency pathways on an in-patient or out-patient basis on our Margate, Ashford and Canterbury hospital sites.

  • A £5,000 recruitment premium will be paid on commencement and £5,000 after 12 months' service. To be repaid (pro rata %) if you leave within 12 months of either payment.

Our next step in our innovative journey to excellence in acute oncology care is to establish a medically led acute oncology model in line with local and national acute oncology provision guidelines by the introduction of Consultant Acute Oncologist roles to our acute oncology teams.

Our 7-day Acute Oncology Service is strongly aligned to our 7-day Palliative Care service and Cancer Care Line for additional support on weekends and Bank Holidays.

The post holder will work closely with the current Nurse led Acute Oncology Team, Palliative Care Consultants and Nurse Specialists and Consultant Clinical Oncologists from Kent Oncology Centre/Maidstone, who provide oncology services at East Kent Hospitals and local Haematology Clinical Teams.

The Trust has five hospitals providing a wide range of high-quality services and opportunities for innovation.

The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford has the full range of district general hospital services, as well as regional specialities, including the country's best performing trauma unit; along with being a specialist centre for head & neck, thyroid, colorectal, breast and lung cancers.

The Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, also provides district general hospital services alongside specialist services for colorectal, breast, lung and gynaecological cancers.

The Kent & Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury, is a specialist services hub which provides adult medical care, vascular services and leading robotic surgery, as well as cancer services for inpatient renal, urological, haematological and dermatological cancers.

Our new hospital in Dover, the Buckland, and Royal Victoria Hospital, Folkestone, provide a variety of outpatient, diagnostic and minor injury services, alongside a range of services throughout the local area and is working on a non-specific symptom service for suspected cancer patients as well as launching Targeted Lung Cancer Health checks.

We support clinicians who see opportunities to make tertiary care available locally for our population, and we have a strong research ethic as a high recruiter to research studies.
