The Role


The purpose of this role is to carefully select, underwrite and retain / acquire profitable risks, and deliver consistently at a high level the company's products and proposition to Brokers and Customers.

Work in collaboration with colleagues to positivelycontribute to the successful delivery of the Department and Branch business plans.


Key Accountabilities

  • Be part of a successful team, and have a willingness to offer assistance and support to the property team, Branch and Home Office colleagues
  • Act as initial referral, authoriser and support for Assistant Underwriters
  • Underwrite and trade successfully individual risks in accordance with company strategy, and guidelines within Underwriting Authority
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of new business, upsell and xsell opportunities.
  • Deliver consistently and accurately our customer and broker propositions, including global programme management, and service level agreements and plans
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business partners (customer, claims, risk consulting, head office, finance, network, policy wordings, compliance and other lines of business) and colleagues to successfully deliver our product and proposition. To beable to lead complex new business and defensive renewal projects
  • Contribute to setting the business plans and the development of the Departments Appetite and Strategic Plan.
  • Deliver positively against the business plan and Key Performance Indicators
  • Actively participate and contribute to the Department and Branch by way of own initiative, forums, committees or projects to improve growth, development, effectiveness and efficiency
  • Represent the Department and actively participate on internal Branch and Head office sponsored forums, committees and projects. Deputise for the Property Director as and when required
  • Continually enhance your knowledge of; underwriting, risk assessment/management, regulatory and industry practice, and meet the minimum Continued Professional Development requirements of the company.

Skills & Experience

  • Good understanding of insurance and the terminologies used, across all lines of business as well as good technical understanding about underwriting policy construction; able to read underwriting files and understand what data needs to be recorded
  • Experience in risk assessment and underwriting the lead (and a follow / reinsurance line) of admitted Multinational Global Property programmes across a wide industry sector, including Captive Fronting.
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance and overseas markets as well as relevant technical commercial property underwriting, risk assessment and contract writing/interpretation experience including machinery breakdown, critical catastrophe Perils, molten materials,excess of loss, contingent Business Interruption
  • Good decision making skills, communication skills, comfortable with phone and facetoface discussions; good accuracy and attention to detail and selfmotivated and able to organise own workload
  • CII, Diploma in Insurance Advanced Diploma in Insurance qualification or equivalent risk assessment/management, underwriting, contract law and regulatory experience
