Job description


The Project Delivery function tracks and delivers some of the most complex and exciting projects in UK defence, offering fantastic variety with the support to shape and grow your career.

With Project Controls and Project Management specialists working arm-in-arm,together our teams deliver fast-paced, cutting-edge projects. Delivering nuclear submarines, some of the most complex equipment in the world, is no easy task.

The SDA have an exciting opportunity for a Cost Control Engineer to join the SDA Cost Management Group. This is a team built to drive efficiency and secure the optimum commercial outcome for the Submarine programme. As a Cost Control Engineer, you will leadcost engineering reviews of contractors' bids for single-source Contracts with the MOD. Undertaking often, high value, complex single source pricing reviews, ensuring adherence with policy and managing output quality.

This work involves reviewing all aspectsof a contractor proposal and may also include reviews of costs provided by the supply chain.

We operate a hybrid working environment and the expectation is that you will attend site approx. twice a week according to the team's business need. Initially you will be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourself with the site, the teamand the position you will be working on

About the roleIn this role you will be entrusted with:

  • Undertaking high value, complex single source pricing reviews, ensuring adherence with policy and managing output quality.
  • Reviewing all aspects of a contractor proposal, including reviews of costs provided by the supply chain.
  • Managing cost engineering reviews, guiding resourcing and planning.
  • Overseeing the output quality of cost engineering reports.
  • Undertaking data validation and verification activities along with project performance reviews and producing reports which summarise cost engineering reviews and provide guidance for negotiation.

Person specification

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of cost analysis tools and techniques, such as Excel.
  • Previous experience leading a team.
