Head of Pastoral/Safeguarding Role

1.


Ensuring Students' Welfare:

Making sure that the welfare needs of students are met, which involves providing support on both individual and group levels.

Designated Safeguarding Lead:
Acting as the appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead at the College, responsible for safeguarding students' welfare and safety.

Leadership and Management:

Offering high-quality support to students and parents/carers, both directly and by managing the quality of services and support provided by others.

Overseeing the day-to-day management of the inclusion center, ensuring effective and efficient systems are in place.

Quality Assurance:

Leading, managing, and monitoring the quality of student welfare and development support to ensure effectiveness and impact on standards.

Staff Training:
Identifying and responding to the training and development needs of staff regarding student welfare and development.

Student Tracking and Intervention:
Implementing the College's strategy for student tracking and intervention related to welfare and development support.

Review and Evaluation:
Reviewing and evaluating the quality of support offered to students.

16.


Team Management:

Managing, supporting, and monitoring the work of a team (both College-based and external agencies) to ensure effective support for students.

Assessment and Reporting:
Contributing to the College's processes for assessment recording and reporting.

18.


Mentorship and Progress Review:

Working closely with the College's leadership team to monitor the quality of every student's one-to-one mentorship, coaching, and progress review experience.

Community Engagement:
Liaising with parents/carers, external agencies, and the wider community to maximize support and resources available to students.

Referral of Suspected Abuse:

Cases:

Ensuring that teachers fulfill their statutory duty of referring all confirmed cases of FGM performed on a pupil to the police, as per legal requirements.

Support for Referrals:

Providing support to other staff members who have made referrals to Local Authority children's social care, ensuring they understand the process and are adequately supported throughout.

Participation in Strategy Discussions and Inter-agency Meetings: Taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, or supporting other staff members to do so, to contribute to the assessment of children and ensure a collaborative approach to safeguarding.

Referral for Radicalisation Concerns:
Referring cases where there is a concern about radicalization, in line with safeguarding procedures and protocols.

6.


Referrals to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): Making referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service if a member of staff is dismissed or resigns in circumstances where there has been actual harm or risk of harm to a child.

7.


Referrals to Police:

Making referrals to the police where a crime may have been committed involving a child, ensuring that appropriate authorities are notified and involved in addressing the situation.

8.


Undertaking Early Help Assessments:

Conducting early help assessments for identified pupils and their families, and acting as the lead professional where appropriate, to provide timely support and intervention.
