An opportunity has arisen for a full time Health Adviser to join the established HA team within a busy integrated sexual health service located in the heart of Clapham Junction.


Sexual Health South West London provides services with our multidisciplinary team across Merton, Wandsworth and Richmond in both level 2 and 3 clinics.

Our level 3 clinic is located in a brand new purposely renovated site set in the bustling heart of Clapham Junction with excellent links to all forms of public transport.


  • To see clients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections including HIV, for information, health education, partner notification, health promotion and risk reduction and treatment
  • To take responsibility for management and recall of patients with a positive diagnosis
  • Provide pre and posttest discussion for HIV where appropriate
  • To see clients in a Sexual Health setting for time limited 1:1 work specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change.
  • To assess manage and support onward referral of vulnerable patients presenting to the service
  • To participate in specifically identified project work as agreed with the Senior Sexual Health Adviser


Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) is one of the largest community healthcare organisations in London and Hertfordshire, providing our services to diverse communities/boroughs in 11 London Boroughs - Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Merton, Richmond, Wandsworth, Westminster - and Hertfordshire.


  • Provide information and health education for clients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, providing support and onward referral as required
  • To manage the process of partner notification/management for these clients in order to encourage, with the client's consent, the attendance of all potentially infected sexual contacts to a Sexual Health clinic. Ensure partner notification outcomes are recorded accurately
  • To provide time limited 1:1 work for clients specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change, using evidenced based tools such as Motivational Interviewing and Behavioural Change models. Assessing all factors which might negatively affect a client's sexual health and referring to appropriate specialist services e.g. Psychology/Psychiatry & Alcohol & Drug services
  • Ensure at all times that the client's identity and the confidential nature of the information obtained is respected in accordance with the Sexually Transmitted Disease Regulations of 1974 and the NHS VD directive of 1991, within clinic, outreach and off site services
  • Facilitate the recall of clients with untreated infections or those in need of followup and/or test of cure by letter, text, telephone or home visit when necessary. To exchange relevant information about clients and contacts with other Sexual Health clinics as necessary
  • Participate in checking weekly failsafe lists to ensure all patients have been notified as necessary of their diagnosis
  • Complete accurate coding of patients who are attending clinic or through contact with patients by telephone
  • Provide initial crisis intervention, assessment and appropriate referral for those clients attending the clinic with associated problems, including but not limited to: termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, sexual assault, domestic violence, substance misuse and sexual dysfunction, FGM, etc
  • Offer information and support, to deal with enquiries from, both the general public and health professionals about Sexually Transmitted Infections, contraception and managing clients who present with health anxiety; assessing and referring as appropriate
  • To be competent in the management of under 16 year olds and in assessing competence using Gillick/Fraser guidelines and complete CSE assessment proforma in accordance with department guidelines.
