Description

A career that will deliver change. Together, we can help Britain achieve net zero.

Join our Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship and you can make an immediate impact, powering the nation today whilst helping to build a sustainable energy future for tomorrow.

"The energy industry is a great sector to work in, with a diverse range of opportunities and a key role to play in the UK's net-zero carbon targets. The HPC project, spanning construction and nuclear operations, has plenty of interesting and challenging opportunities. I find being part of this team very rewarding."
Lucas Smith, Apprentice

What is the Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Programme:

We're recruiting for apprentices to join our Nuclear Engineering Degree training programme working as part of some of the most exciting projects at EDF.

During your apprenticeship you'll be looking to make an impact - using your skills, knowledge and passion to achieve great things.

So how about taking on the challenge of beating climate change?

During this four-year Degree Apprenticeship, you'll learn from our industry-leading experts and gain valuable experience, whilst studying for a Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can't get on campus. On the scheme you'll follow the Level 6 Nuclear Scientist Nuclear Engineer Apprentice Standard.

Training, development and support for you:

You'll spend your first year in full time residential study at the National College for Nuclear, completing a foundation year in engineering, including both academic and hands on learning within a realistic training environment.

You'll undertake foundation training courses and complete orientations at your EDF base location.

In years two and three, your time will be split between your studies and on the job learning at your EDF location, whilst you start to specialise in your chosen field.

In your final year, you'll spend most of your time at your EDF location, whilst continuing your studies through distance learning.

You'll have developed your knowledge and skills from your studies and in the workplace and you will have captured the learning evidence as part of your training and development portfolio.

You'll enjoy plenty of opportunities to get involved in meaningful and challenging work but that doesn't mean you'll have too much on your plate.

You'll be on block release from work when you're studying, and we'll offer support to help you manage your workload.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you could move into engineering roles within Ops development, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control.

Where you'll work:

During the apprenticeship you will be working within a team at either the Hinkley Point C locations: Bristol, Aztec West (North Bristol) or on site in Bridgwater.

Your time will be split between your EDF workplace and the National College for Nuclear (southern hub in Bridgwater, Somerset).

What you'll need to apply:

  • A minimum of 102 UCAS points ideally either
- or, a relevant Level 3 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with a strong mathematical element

  • A passion for engineering in the nuclear industry
  • The ability to work in a team and independently, as well as being able to balance the responsibilities of study and work
  • Willingness to relocate as required

What salary and benefits are we offering you?

  • Starting salary of £19,27
  • Accommodation and meal costs covered in your first year if you do not live locally to Bridgwater
  • 25 days' annual leave
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Wellbeing and support services
