Job Description:

We are seeking a Head of Mining Systems Technologies & Research who will be responsible for enabling the Anglo American group to achieve mining innovation through development and deployment of appropriate technology and longterm research capability.

This exciting position will see you lead in deriving a new technology strategy, vision and roadmap, to define and prioritise specific projects in Mining, controls and automation to effect a step change in value.

Core Responsibilities (amongst others):

Engages closely with relevant businesses through the project life cycle to ensure alignment and commitment to project implementation at operations.
Provides thought leadership to mining technology development activities. (direct output, owns decision right, managerial authority)
Establishes Mining Systems projects and programs to allow AA to meet its future smart mining objectives across all AA regions.
Research current and new technology landscape, evaluate the potential of new solutions.
Identifies opportunities for long term innovation and associated research.
Translates the Digital technology vision and roadmap into discrete projects that enable the Carbon Neutrality and Innovation Purpose.
Lead projects from the transition of concept to execution aligned to the AA operating model (AAOM).

Qualifications:

An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline.

Desirable:A Masters or PhD degree, demonstrating research proficiency and a structured problem-solving approach.

Active Engagement in

Mining Discourse:
Proven experience in actively participating in discussions related to mining within the group, leveraging available knowledge.

Demonstrated engagement in longterm research initiatives, including established connections with universities and research institutes/organizations focused on innovation and R&D.
Expertise in leading the creation of a comprehensive technology strategy, vision, and roadmap for advancing mining innovation. Proven track record in formulating, defining, and prioritizing specific projects within Mining, controls, and automation, resulting in a significant enhancement of value.
Leadership in

Mining Technology:

Validates the ability to offer thought leadership in the development of mining technology, exercising decision rights and managerial authority over direct outputs.

Demonstrates a capacity to identify and capitalize on opportunities for long-term innovation and associated research within the mining sector.
