This role would be suitable for someone with attention to detail and self motivated.

Role requires travelling to stations on a daily basis so you must be able to travel in vehicle provided by Trust.

To undertake the testing and compliance of emergency fire safety equipment on multiple sites.

The role holder is expected to work largely unsupervised, using their initiative and able to plan and coordinate multiple objectives.

A key element of the role is maintaining accurate logbooks to monitor both testing and actuation of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.


Communicate effectively with all department users and communicate with a wide range of external companies to coordinate planned and reactive Estate maintenance works if faults are found.


The Estates team are responsible for all the sites across the EEAST region, and as such you will correspond with a wide range of managers, administrators, and other staff from across the Trust.

It is possible that as the role develops, you may be able to take on other Fire safety tasks such as Fire Risk Assessment reviews.

Fire Alarm Testing
1.1. To be responsible to carry out a weekly test of the building's fire alarm system under the British Standards BS5839 and the Regulatory Reform
Order 2005 regarding fire alarms and emergency lighting.
1.2.

To be responsible to carry out a weekly test of the building's fire alarm system under the Regulatory Reform Order 2005 article 17.

1.3.

To be responsible to ensure that the fire alarm logbook is kept up to date and that the following events are recorded:


  • Dates and times of alarms tests
  • Genuine faults and tests and whatever causes are listed
  • Dates, times of defects or faults. What action has been taken, who it was reported to and when
  • Dates of the test of the system, dates of servicing, dates and times of any disconnections and disablements and any changes that have been made to the system
  • Emergency Lighting Testing
2.1. To be responsible to carry out a monthly test of the emergency lighting under the BS for clear guidelines.
2.2.

To understand the different types of emergency lighting and their test requirements:


  • Emergency lighting is a general term and is subdivided into emergency escape lighting and standby lighting
  • Emergency escape lighting
  • Standby lighting
  • Escape route lighting
  • Open area lighting
2.3. You will be responsible for recording all tests in a logbook, reporting any faults found, and actions taken.
2.4. You will be responsible to implement interim safety measures to ensure a building is safe before leaving a site.

  • Estates Service Development
3.1.

To Undertake site visits working with all disciplines within Estates and the Trust to deliver all statutory and legislative compliance in the following areas:


  • External and internal cleaning standards
  • Clinical and domestic waste levels and standards
  • Linen levels and standards
  • Window cleaning standards
  • All building environmental standards
  • Pest control standards
  • IPC Compliance
  • Corrective minor works reporting
  • Standard of the internal/external building signage
