Job summary:


This post is part of the leadership and management of the RASAF team and will have direct management and leadership responsibility for a small team.

The post holder will also be working closely with senior colleagues in Policy, Finance and across Ofsted's eight regions to support planning and delivery.


The primary purpose of the role is to provide accurate inspection forecasts for at least one of Ofsted's remits in a clear and transparent format.

The post holder will be advising the Deputy Director RASAF on pre-emptive approaches that address fluctuations in inspection volumes to ensure that variations are identified and managed effectively.


The role includes selecting the providers that are due an inspection at the right time to ensure Ofsted meets its statutory, policy and its commitments to other government departments, and use of risk assessment as a basis for selecting providers for inspection where it is appropriate to do so.


Job description:

The key responsibilities of the role are outlined below. However, this is an overview of the role and is not exhaustive. Ofsted reserves the right to assign other duties commensurate with the
Band A grade as required.

  • To lead a small remit team within the wider Risk Assessment, Selection and Forecasting team, ensuring work is allocated proportionately and prioritised according to business need. Develop the team ensuring staff can develop their skills and their career in Ofsted.
  • To build positive and productive working relationships with a range of colleagues across Ofsted ensuring colleagues are involved in the shaping of risk assessment, forecasting and selection policy.
  • To work effectively with regional teams providing advice on selection to ensure Ofsted meets it statutory and policy obligations and that inspection are planned when they are due.
  • To develop appropriate management information to provide assurance that Ofsted is meeting its statutory and policy obligations.
  • To provide accurate forecasts and advice on inspection volumes. To identify peaks and troughs and provide advice on smoothing to inform short, medium, and longer term financial and resource planning.
  • Where applicable, to use risk assessment techniques to inform when inspections should take place or what type of inspection should be undertaken.
