Making Bexley Even Better.

Bexley Council has always been and continues to be focused on supporting the community and making sure the social care offered to residents is world class.

We want people in Bexley to be able to make their own informed choices to live independent, healthylives, remaining in their own homes for as long as possible.

To achieve this, we will work together with local people and communities to explore a variety of ways to meet care and support needs.

We will provide information, guidance and advice that helps peopleto make the best-informed choices for themselves and their families.

As a Council, we aim to continue our drive to be innovative and self-sufficient, providing opportunities for growth as well as support and care where needed.

Central to the success of this is the finance department, which influences right across the Council.

The department has recently reviewed its resourcing across the Business Partnering teams and given the increasing challenges and demands across social carehas created this dedicated Head of Finance role to ensure that the department can continue to deliver the valuable support, analysis and challenge the Council needs.

To ensure we attract and keep talented individuals, we are committed to developing from within, supporting staff through internal and external training as well as learning from the pandemic and adopting hybrid working.

It is a challenging time for the SocialCare team with lasting pressures from COVID coupled with an aging population creating financial pressures that must be managed.

For a talented and ambitious finance professional this creates an exciting opportunity to effect real change that will significantlyimpact people's lives, whilst simultaneously developing their skills and experience.

This is a hybrid working opportunity with significant flexibility around when staff can expect to spend time in the office.

Reporting into the Deputy Director of Finance and Property, the Head of Finance for Adults and Health will lead the team to ensure all stakeholders have the information they need to provide value for money and maximise outcomes for residents.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working and collaborating with Directors and senior stakeholders to ensure they have the information and tools they need to achieve value for money and maximise outcomes for residents
  • Proactively identify areas of financial weakness by understanding the risks and pressures and working towards improving them as well as modelling and where possible predicting these pressures to allow for forward planning
  • Leading in providing strategic financial advice to enable services to deliver continuous improvement in line with corporate priorities and the council's medium term financial strategy
  • Creating strong relationships with service managers by understanding their needs and how they can be best supported
  • Delivering the wider finance activities such as closure of accounts, budget development

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in either managing a team at this level within a local authority, or someone with a strong background in adults social care and Public Health looking to step up into a senior managerialposition.

The post holder must have confidence in building and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders and an ability to develop and motivate a team.

Applicants must be qualified within a CCAB body or CIMA and experience within a local authority essential.

This role offers the opportunity for development and support meaning this is an excellent opportunity to progress and gain valuable experience.
