About the role:


The UK Underwriting Pricing and Portfolio Management (UPP) Team are very excited to bring to market a fantastic opportunity, to join a newly established specialist team, to report in to and compliment the UK Exposure Management Director.


There is huge opportunity to take ownership and shape the narrative, being responsible for leading the Catastrophe exposure management strategy, including aggregation, natural and non-natural cat modelling input, and insight development to protect the business against risk.


What you'll be doing:

Directing definition of exposure/catastrophe management data and models for all lines of business, building a consistent understanding of existing & emerging risks across both the UK Commercial and Retail Divisions.

Additionally, you'll will be required to help develop the overall exposure management capability to include non-static and non-modelled solutions in order to drive accuracy in portfolio optimisation decisions.


  • Build strong connections and processes with the second line Risk teams to provide input and challenge around the Exposure based inputs and outputs of the Capital models.
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing development of AXA's internal cat models, including validation of the cat models.
  • Support AXA UK's refinement of reinsurance and catastrophe risk into pricing and explore further accumulation controls.
  • Work alongside the Reinsurance team to ensure that the insights required to optimise portfolio management and reinsurance spend are available, appropriately granular, timely and understood.
  • Supporting the Exposure Management Director to build and lead the crossdivision Exposure Management team and processes, setting strategies and priorities that reflect the business environment and ensure that AXA UK has best in class exposure and catastrophe management capability.
  • Responsible for proactively seeking market insights on emerging risks to aid development of exposure insights to inform portfolio direction and actions.
  • Leads research and development of new models for nonstatic and nonmodelled exposure management solutions in order to build out the overall Exposure Management function.
  • Collaborate with both the Retail and Commercial pricing teams to ensure that their respective models contain up to date insights and assumptions.
  • Support and collaborate with the wider Climate Change and ESG teams.
  • Work with the Exposure Management Director to promote and reinforce a culture of Exposure Management and Catastrophe Risk awareness throughout the organisation.

About you:


What we're looking for:


  • Resultoriented individual with a strong analytical and/or statistical background.
  • Extensive experience of working in a senior role within an Exposure Management or Cat Modelling team.
  • Good technical understanding of the various modules/components that sits within Catastrophe models.
  • Experience of working with and critiquing inputs and outputs from Catastrophe Models including model validation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an exposure community across divisions, Reinsurance and second line to ensure effective relationships and direction of travel are aligned.
  • Knowledge of the technical underwriting process, including technical pricing, risk assessment, commercial considerations, and any capital implications.
  • Understanding of business operations, particularly regarding navigating a large corporation or identifying key stakeholders and their needs.
  • Indepth understanding of current and emerging risks, exposure management, underwriting and pricing practices.
  • Ability to seek and synthesise market insight and emerging risk information into exposure models.
