Band - ODP:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a temporary position with a start date of 12/02/2024 and an end date of 12/02/2024. The working hours for this role are from 08:00:00 to 13:00:00, and the payment rate is £135 per shift.


As a Band - ODP, you will play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team before, during, and after surgical procedures.

You will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth running of the operating theatre.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing the operating theatre, including checking and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Assisting with patient positioning and ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs and reacting quickly to any changes or complications.
  • Administering medications and fluids as directed by the anaesthetist.
  • Assisting the surgical team during procedures, including passing instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Providing postoperative care, including monitoring patients in the recovery room and assisting with their transfer to the ward.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to patients' care.
  • Participating in the implementation of infection control measures and protocols.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in surgical procedures, equipment, and techniques.


To be successful in this role, you must have a relevant qualification as an Operating Department Practitioner and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Previous experience working in an operating theatre setting is essential.
