PURPOSE

The main duty of this position is the creation of Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, incorporating advice from parents/carers, children/young people, schools and other professional bodies, in accordance with the Children and Families Act and associated regulations and guidance.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write EHC plans in a timely manner to ensure statutory timescales are strictly adhered to.
  • Write plans to a high standard and in accordance with the relevant statute, regulations, and Department for Education (DfE) guidance, including ensuring plans are clear, concise, and accessible.
  • Liaise with advice givers, when required; for example, when further information or clarification is required.
  • Make effective use of the SEND database, e.g. Capita One v4 and 'e-files'. This includes ensuring that local authority (LA) procedures are followed, and all relevant data and information is recorded accurately and kept up to date. The information recorded will be confidential and sensitive and must not be disclosed to unauthorised persons.
  • Under the guidance of an EHCP Co-ordinator, respond to parental submissions regarding proposed changes to EHC plans.
  • Work closely with EHCP Coordinators and to assist with case work, when required, including the scheduling and arranging of meetings with parents and professionals to discuss EHC plans.
ROLE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


Qualifications:


  • Educated to the equivalent of Alevel standard (Level 3 qualifications and above)

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the presentation of formal reports
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to the public service
  • Effective organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work as part of a team but often without direct supervision using own initiative

Experience:


  • Experience of writing person centred plans / reports
  • Experience of coordinating external services in schools and/or experience of multidisciplinary team working
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


Qualifications:


  • Additional qualifications in a related specialist field e.g. child development, education

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Experience of working in an environment delivering high quality customer service

Experience:


  • Experience of working with a broad range of children, young people and families

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Able to travel within Wirral and outside the Authority when required. Will require an enhanced DBS check.

Able to work outside traditional hours, of a weekend and evening as required, adopting an agile working approach in response to business requirements.
