This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and supportive department, to contribute to the delivery of outstanding, evidence-based care to our patients at both the Chelsea and Sutton sites.


The appointee will be expected with colleagues to run a first class anaesthesia and critical care service, in line with established guidelines and policies.

On call is 1:8 for critical care. There is a separate anaesthesia on-call rota for theatres and paediatrics (covered exclusively by general anaesthetists).


The posts comprise 8 PA for direct clinical care and 2 for supporting professional activity (SPA), please see job description and sample job plan for the post attached.


To support the Departments in delivering clinical training, the appointee will be expected to undertake the necessary training to be a GMC-accredited educational supervisor as well as supervising clinical fellows.

To participate in regular departmental, academic, audit and managerial meetings.

Attendance at a minimum of 60% of departmental MDTs per annum is required as an on-going commitment to the post.

The Consultant, with colleagues, will provide cover for absence for study and annual leave for the critical care duties of other Consultants


The appointee would be expected to participate in Continuing Medical Education to the level required by the Royal College of their base specialty.

The Royal Marsden NHS Trust recognises the need for Continuing Medical Education and funding for this educational programme is currently via the Medical Director.


Participation in annual appraisal and appropriate preparation for revalidation by the GMC and recertification by the appropriate Royal Colleges is required of the appointee.


Assistance in administrative and managerial tasks to facilitate the smooth running of the department within the scope of the job plan and contract will be required.

Involvement in educational activities and undertaking the necessary training to be a GMC-accredited educational supervisor.

Commitment to and involvement in facilitation of research and audit activities of the department.
