  • Job description 1
Warwickshire is recruiting Authorised Firearms Officers to the Operational Firearms Unit
  • We are seeking transferees for PC Authorised Firearms Officers (trained to ARV role profile) at our Leek Wootton Police HQ.
  • AFO's in Warwickshire Police work a 4 on/4 off shift pattern for 8 weeks followed by a 2week training period.
  • AFO's receive a firearms retention payment per annum (£1000 reviewed annually)
  • OFCs receive an additional targeted variable payment in recognition of the command role (£1000 reviewed annually)
  • Officers benefit from use of the gym facilities (demand depending)

This is an exciting role for AFO's providing an armed policing function to the large county of Warwickshire with a split of rural and urban communities.

We police a large section of the strategic road network which connects the North to the South of the country and borders the West Midlands Policing area amongst others.

As an AFO in Warwickshire you will work in the Operational Patrol Unit, this is centrally based and services the whole of Warwickshire.

We are looking for motivated Officers who are experienced AFO's who want a new challenge, change of policing area or those looking to extend their skillset or promote in the future.

We also invite newly qualified AFO's who want to develop as an AFO in a supportive environment and above all we want Officers who want to be part of our team to build an inclusive unit where officers work hard together, with enthusiasm and respect and protect people from harm with drive, professionalism and pride.

Our vision moving forwards is for our AFO's to provide a high level of armed policing response and make Warwickshire roads a hostile place for Organised Crime Groups, County Lines and Cross Border criminals who use our road network to commit crime

We offer our team the best tools to do their job, we invest in our fleet of ARV's and have recently equipped our officers with new kit and equipment to make the best use of advances in technology.

There are opportunities to develop your skills and training when on the department, this includes OFC roles if you want to expand your skillset as a Commander, instructing if you aspire to become a National Firearms Instructor and close protection if you see yourself providing protection to members of HM Government and the Royal Family who visit Warwickshire.

We have a flexible model where operational AFO's with extended skillset's are given the opportunity to work within our Training School and where NFI's provide support to the ARV.

We are also looking for OFC's. Alongside leading your team in both planned and spontaneous incidents, you will get excellent training and CPD opportunities. OFC's receive a targeted variable payment as we recognise that this is a demanding role.
We work a 5-shift system on a 4 on 4 off pattern of 12-hour shifts.

The 5th shift provides the opportunity for Teams to train together and when there is no training it is an opportunity for proactive policing.

The training calendar is tailored to provide interesting and stimulating training locations and we utilise excellent range facilities with one of partners.

AFO's have access to Force Gyms and there is an active Sports & Social Club across the Force.

Application Criteria:

  • Substantive in the rank of Constable serving (or have served) with a Home Office Force
  • A current Authorised Firearms Officer, trained to the National ARV Role Profile
  • Able to pass and maintain the Fitness Test to level 9
  • To be eligible to transfer you must: Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force (Officers from British Transport Police, Police Service Northern Ireland, Police of Scotland & Ministry of Defence are assessed on a casebycase basis).
  • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
