The Public Transport team provides subsidised bus services to complement the network of commercially operated bus routes in Lancashire, ensuring public transport provision for areas that would otherwise have little or no service.

In addition, the team provides a safe and effective network of subsidised bus services to mainstream schools across Lancashire.

Services are procured through competitive tendering procedures in line with Lancashire County Council's (LCC) procedures and EU Directives and are monitored and managed in accordance with the LCC Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS).

The performance of contractors is managed and involves revenue and contract compliance checks, which may lead to investigations and result in formal disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from contracts.


The post holder will share responsibility for Safeguarding within the school bus network and will assist in referring individuals to the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS); this is a legal responsibility, on behalf of the authority.

The role will also assist with the performance monitoring of school services and contract compliance, including investigating and responding to customer complaints.

The team further safeguards children through robust DBS, ensuring all processes are followed precisely, the post holder will be responsible to take appeals from DBS applicants refused due to content shown on their DBS certificate.
