Overview
We are currently looking for a PPE Lead to join our friendly team initially for three months.

The post-holder will be required to provide an efficient, cost effective, timely and courteous Materials Management service to the wards and departments within NUH NHS Trust, primarily focused around PPE.

This will include the management of stock to agreed levels, data input and processing of orders, put-away of stock, liaison with customers, other NUH Procurement & Supply Chain department colleagues.

This service will at all times provide support to clinical staff in the provision of high-quality patient-centred care.

You will spend your time divided between being office based and physically scanning/putting away stock during store replenishment. The amount of time spent on each task is variable on a day-by-day basis.

You will be responsible for moving from area to area and has to access multiple store rooms and cupboards within each visit to review stock needs of the area.

It may be necessary to carry a bag or move a trolly/cage containing stock, as well as working with a handheld bar code scanner/PDA.

You will also work with a desk-based computer system whilst in the office as well as using other standard office equipment.

The putting away of stock includes the handling/moving/breakdown of boxes, packaging and cages whilst adhering to Trust Health and Safety requirements.


Your duties will include:


  • Provide a professional, customer focused PPE Materials Management service to all user departments.
  • Ordering and maintaining PPE stock for each relevant PPE Store.
  • Delivering stock to other departments as the requirement arises
  • Housekeeping by way of breaking down cages and disposal of boxes and packaging.
  • Record each transaction accurately and upload data into the required system each day.
  • Ensure stocks are managed appropriately and cost effectively, whilst meeting the customers' departmental or area needs. Including the removal, return or disposal of excess or redundant stock and assisting with high urgency product recalls following safety alerts.
  • Undertake daily stocktakes off all PPE items in the PPE Store.
  • Assist with statistical analysis and production of reports as required: including the review of local PPE stock levels
  • Maintain a high level of communication with wards/departments to ensure customers.

Including but not limited to:

ensuring awareness of any product changes and shortages, awareness of correct storage of goods in compliance with fire and infection control regulations (identifying risks as necessary), keeping wards/departments appraised of any changes to the service.


  • Maintain a high level of communication and interaction amongst the Materials Management, Supply Chain, R&D Team and wider Procurement teams to ensure the sharing of best practice and knowledge.
  • Actively build and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, key customers and external organisations, to a consistently high standard of customer care.
  • Should the need arise, provide operational support for the wider Supply Chain function (Materials Management, Receipts & Distribution and Break Bulk) across all Hospital sites.
  • May occasionally need to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry to cover if staff are on annual leave or absent.

Skills required:


  • Must have a full clean category 'C1' LGV UK driving licence as may occasionally need to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, and basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly.
  • Maintain good timekeeping & Attendance.
  • To be able to work in occupied areas safely and conduct oneself in a manner that preserves the dignity and respect due to patients.
