ABOUT THE ROLE


The Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and the driving force behind a new state-of-the-art research and development facility based in Dudley in the West Midlands.


This £32m multi-purpose centre, situated at the heart of the Black Country, offers a host of unique facilities including a Rail Development and Test Site, Engineering Laboratories, Serviced Offices and an Events Suite.

BCIMO's role is to work with organisations large and small - innovators, academia, policy makers and government departments - to deliver projects that will help shape and accelerate future industries, with four interdependent areas of activity focused on the development of:

  • Innovative / low-cost _technologies_ for the rail sector as well as other new and emerging markets.
  • Manufacturing _supply chains_, here in the UK, and specifically in the Black Country / wider West Midlands.
  • Skilled _workforces_ to manufacture, implement and operate these technologies, again in the Black Country / wider West Midlands.
  • New and emerging _markets_, both in the UK and overseas.

We are looking for individuals who are pro-active and highly motivated with a proven track-record of delivering success and the ability to get things done working both independently and within a team.

We need a true self-starter with a strong track record facilities management, a good awareness the technical requirements of a busy innovation / engineering facility, strong stakeholder management skills and proven ability to multitask.


Naturally, you will be exceptionally organised and methodical, with meticulous attention to detail, and you will be passionate about taking on responsibility and making things happen.

Working closely with the Head of Engineering and Procurement Manager to negotiate with suppliers and managing multiple work streams should be second nature to you, and you will combine commercial acumen with the highest standards of planning.

In short, you will bring everything it takes to ensure the efficient running of a world-class engineering research and innovation centre.


DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure all legislative requirements are fulfilled for the building's facilities, including lifting equipment, gas, water and electrical systems
  • In conjunction with the Events Manager support the facility elements of conferences and events
  • To facilitate planned preventative maintenance, adhoc repairs and undertake works to the buildings and grounds to a high standard, or dealing with contractors as appropriate
  • To assist in maintaining the security of the premises, buildings and grounds, including the frequent routine and nonroutine inspections of the roadways, car parks and cycle racks, perimeter fencing and gates
  • To assist in maintaining, operating and testing the security systems including the fire alarm, intruder alarm, refuge call alarm, CCTV and door alarms and inspect fire extinguishing systems and rectify any faults
  • To ensure the efficient operation of the building as described in the Operations and Maintenance manual.
  • To assist in supervising of all onsite contractors and provide access as and when required
  • To assist with the movement of furniture and carry out manual handling tasks using appropriate aids where required
  • To assist, if and when required with other disciplines of works within the wider facilities and cleaning teams role
  • To ensure the building and site is tidy and clean to meet our customer's high expectations.

  • Proven experience as facilities officer
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • A knack for problemsolving
  • A team player with leadership skills
  • The capability to work autonomously and as part of a team. You should be a real selfstarter who is able to make things happen

Salary:
£28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year
