An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen as a Rapid Diagnostic Centre Administrator.

The post holider will provide specialist knowledge for the pathway of cancer patients across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

You will facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey by ensuring that the pathway is co-ordinated, streamlined and all processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.


The successful applicant will work directly and indirectly with patients and their carers, and be responsible for capturing information about patients, ensuring up-to-date relevant information is recorded on the patient record and Trust systems.

It is important that you have a good knowledge and understanding of patient complete pathways.


As a key requirement of this role, the post holder will have excellent communication and organisational skills, together with a high attention to detail and levels of accuracy.


This newly created role is pivotal to the implementation of a new rapid diagnostic pathway for patients with suspected gastro-intestinal cancer.


This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the setup of a 4 year flagship programme hosted by Basildon Hospital aiming to achieve early identification and timely diagnosis.

The role will support and work within the clinical nurse teams to support and transform and develop current processes.

The primary base at Basildon hospital with the requirement to be flexible about working across the MSE sites.

Please note that this is a 12 month fixed term contract only as it is a new service.

  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders across the organization.
  • Exchange information with patients, relatives and staff on a variety of departmental matters and procedures, anxious patients and relatives, cultural or language difficulties.
  • Relay information in a tactful and sensitive manner between the departments.
  • Promote good customer relations and public image of the department.
  • Presents a positive presentation of self and service to patients/staff, for example appropriate dress and attitude whilst at work.
  • Keeps team/staff/colleagues informed through regular meetings, cascading information.
  • Follow legislation and Trust policy and procedure in relation to communication, in particular confidentiality, data protection, dignity & respect.
  • Monitor patient attendance of appointments and rearrange/book further appointments as required.
  • To ensure appointments are booked chronologically and in accordance with National and Local Guidelines.
  • To liaise with the relevant clinical teams to ensure quality of data collected.
  • To attend MDT meetings and pick up any actions that arises as part of the MDT outcome.
  • To liaise with Consultants and MDT members with target treatment dates in relation to the Cancer Waiting Times 31 and 62 day targets
  • Liaise with patients and provides advice, information and guidance to patients, carers and relatives about appointments, clinics, admissions.
