The Manchester Youth Zone has an excellent reputation in a number of areas including safeguarding, working with young people who are "at risk" of criminal exploitation, mentoring and employment skills.

We have invested strongly in partnership working, becoming a community asset responding to the needs of young people and the local community of North Manchester.

Our Families and Community Workers will provide tailored family support for those members that require more intensive and wider interventions than what we can offer within our core Manchester Youth Zone offer.

This includes practical help and emotional support to families of our members experiencing short or long-term difficulties, empowering them to address various challenges, reducing problems and risks, linking in with wider services to address issues as early as possible.

It is likely that you will help parents and children with a range of social and personal issues including, domestic abuse, bereavement, risk of homelessness, mental health, debt, or challenges engaging with other services.

The postholders will be required to engage with identified young people on sessions and to effectively communicate the support strategies to the wider team and also be asked to take a lead on delivering activities during family sessions.

They will also work with third parties to identify children and young people interested in engaging with our programmes who would most benefit but may need additional support and internally to mobilise the youth work team to ensure that inclusive practice is woven across a range of our existing activities.

This role will be centred around our social prescribing and intervention programme of activity, however, will assist in the wider programme and projects when necessary.

  • To lead on the planning, delivery and evaluation of 'Saturday Family Sessions' ensuring that families and young people are involved in the planning, and the sessions have a range of activities that bring families together through positive activities
  • Complete strengthbased assessment of families' needs so that you can identify and plan the support needed to address issues and prevent any problems from escalating
  • Act as a single point of contact for families, schools and other agencies to ensure that communication across all parties is positive and that support can be mobilised effectively.
  • Undertake home and community visits to ensure that families are fully supported to progress and achieve desired outcomes in jointly agreed plans
