Work with the ENRICH Lead, Care Home Research Facilitators, Clinical Research Network colleagues, steering group members and Clinical Research Specialty Lead to identify and implement strategies to support care homes to become research active, enabling them to provide a comprehensive clinical trial service.

Work proactively with care home site staff, researchers and the NIHR Clinical Research Network West Midlands team to identify and support the growth of the portfolio of care homes studies running within NIHR Clinical Research Network West Midlands Lead on the delivery of the ENRICH programme within a defined geographical region.

Undertake and deliver the responsibilities of the Study Lead role for a study where this is allocated to the post holder.

Assist with the implementation of new initiatives as these are rolled out.

Act as a key point of contact for care homes. Agree targets for signing up care homes to ENRICH and work proactively and autonomously, to ensure targets are met.

Identify barriers to care home participation in research and develop strategies with Clinical Research N colleagues, ENRICH team and steering group members, Clinical Research Specialty Lead care homes and researchers to support the care home in overcoming these barriers and increase research participation.

Support care home managers to identify the costs of conducting research and help with planning staffing resources.

Support and advise researchers who seek support in recruiting participants from care homes to their studies. Make introductions as necessary. Proactively promote research and the local portfolio of studies widely across the network.

Participate in the maintenance of a high profile for the work of the Clinical Research Network across the network and with outside agencies as appropriate.


Raise the profile of clinical research amongst health and social care professionals, people who use these services and the public.

Support patient, public and carer involvement and engagement through promoting the Clinical Research Network, ENRICH and Join Dementia Research at local events and potentially national events if appropriate.


Work as part of the ENRICH team to:

Develop and implement a comprehensive work plan to ensure that care homes reach research readiness in an appropriate timescale, tailoring the plan to meet the needs of the individual organisations and sharing best practice.

Provide a comprehensive advice service about all aspects of establishing a research portfolio and study conduct, including providing advice/signposting about research management and governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).


Support the implementation of local strategies developed by the Clinical Research Network West Midlands to meet the performance measures of the NIHR Research Clinical Research Network.

Interrogate the local portfolio of NIHR studies to optimise opportunities for care home residents to take part in a range of studies opportunities to extend the opportunity for research.


Coordinate and promote projects this will involve:

the development and delivery of both short and long term plans; identifying and managing resources; setting realistic timeframes for completion; monitoring progress; report writing and identifying lessons learned.

Work according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance standards. Attend meetings and training relevant to the nature of the job.

Provide reports on progress and performance as required. Organise your own diary appropriately to maximise productive time. Travel as required by the network to locations across the West Midlands. Adhere to promote a safe working environment.


Communicate with care home staff, residents and their family members to ensure they understand what their participation in research would involve Develop and manage systems to maintain good communications with key stakeholders.

Promote ENRICH and Join Dementia Research widely, representing the NIHR Clinical Research Network West Midlands ranging from presentations to groups, workshops events, focus groups and liaising with the public, to achieve agreed outputs.

Be part of the ENRICH National team and contribute at a national level as required. Promote and contribute to online ENRICH materials for example case studies, and articles for the national ENRICH newsletter.


Recognises the complex emotional/psychological needs of patients entering a clinical trial and provides an appropriate level of support/education to care home staff.

Provide regular updates and written progress reports to the management team and the DeNDRoN Co-ordinating Centre project team as required.

Acts as a resource for colleagues in relation to clinical research. Promote understanding of clinical research by raising awareness of clinical trials amongst healthcare professionals, patients and the public. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of study conduct and relevant legislation and facilitate the development of knowledge in others.
