The Lister Hospital Cellular Pathology Department is looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in Pathology Services within the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.


Our busy department provides vital diagnostic services to the Trust, duties will include receipt and labelling of samples, assisting in specimen dissection, inputting pathology requests on a computer system and supporting the Biomedical Scientists.

The role will involve the handling of pathology tissue samples.

Lab experience is advantageous but not essential.


To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7days per week service.

This position is under a fixed term contract for 12 months.

  • Responsible for sample receipt, numbering and data entry on the computer system.
  • Support of quality control processes.
  • Participate in day to day management of stock control and usage.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Use equipment in a safe manner and report any equipment faults to more senior members of staff.
  • To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7days per week service.
