PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


  • To maximise revenue through the assertive collection of Council Tax/National Non Domestic Rates (NNDR) in accordance with the Local Government and Finance Act 1992, subsequent regulations and the recovery policy.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements; make decisions on the most appropriate course of action with regard to the remedies available for the recovery of NNDR from billing to post liability.
  • Maintain the NNDR property database accurately with respect to all amendments.
  • To work with the Court Officers at Magistrates' Court.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES:


  • To perform account housekeeping; process methods of payment; action refunds, and prepare writeoffs and writeoff amounts in accordance with policy.
  • To reconcile the property valuation bands with the Valuation Office, action splits and mergers and ensure the property database accurately reflects the valuations list.
  • Issue accounts to the Bailiff, monitor progress and liaise with the Bailiff on all accounts issued to them. Allocate Bailiff Payments and advise Bailiff of directly received payments and account amendments. Maintain and provide statistics on Bailiff Payments.
  • Take appropriate action to recover NNDR from customers in arrears in accordance with the legislation and the recovery policy. Set and monitor payment arrangements, attachment orders and instigate and control trace enquiries.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Ability to coordinate, plan, prioritise the workload and meet set targets.
  • Well developed communication skills (both written and oral) including:
  • Effective liaison with officers and external agencies
  • Ability to write clear letters
  • Numerate and literate
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues and all stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Good knowledge of NNDR legislation, regulations and working practices.
  • Substantial experience of Information Technology as it relates to NNDR.
  • Understanding and commitment to promoting and implementing the Council's Equality and Diversity policies.
  • Commitment and ability to follow guidelines that ensures compliance to Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.

WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE:


  • Extensive experience of working in an administrative role within an office environment.
  • Good numerical and literacy skills.
  • Experience of explaining complex information to clients in a customer friendly manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience of working to achieve set targets and delivering to tight deadlines with mínimal supervision.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract, Temp to perm

From £17.50 per hour
