About the team

The Fixed Income departments at BlackRock, part of the comprehensive Portfolio Management Group (PMG), manage more than $2.5 trillion in fixed income assets across index, active, and the $307B liability driven strategies business.

The PMG Fixed Income platformoffers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest array of investment choices across index, model-based and fundamental investment styles.

The Liability Driven Investment (LDI) business is a distinct part of Global Fixed Income which leverages the breadth and depth of the entire fixed income platform when delivering investment solutions for our clients.

BlackRock has been managing LDI mandatesfor over 20 years.

We are passionate about designing and implementing fixed income solutions to help, primarily, pension fund clients to meet their long-term investment objectives.

We are an investment team with offices located in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco,London, Gurgaon, and Budapest split across Client Portfolio Management and Core Portfolio Management sub-teams.

Our day to day activities range from monitoring the markets, modelling solutions and formulating the investment proposition, to trade construction,to designing the operational structure of the mandate and working with multiple BlackRock teams to implement it.

The LDI Core Portfolio Management team is responsible for trade construction, implementation and ongoing mandate and risk management of LDI investment solutions to institutional investors.

The Core PM team ensures that clients' portfolios meet their investmentobjectives and are managed in a consistent and risk-controlled manner.


Key responsibilities

You will be the primary coder for LDI Core PM technology initiatives to develop and manage the code base used by the LDI Core PM team.


Specific stages you will be responsible for:

  • Identify and scope out automation opportunities (both for existing activities and new products) on LDI Core PM team and inputting into prioritisation process
  • Design efficient algorithms and optimizers to automate key portfolio construction processes
  • Develop both prototypes and production tools
  • Create Unit and Integration Tests to test code
  • Develop other desk tools to support the Core PM investment process
  • Partner with Core PMs to integrate these tools into daily processes and continually refine them
  • Develop reporting methods and analytics on new tools to ensure improvements can be measured
  • Observing and contributing to improving best practices with regards to the governance of the codebase
  • Working with PMs and partner teams throughout the code release cycle including managing version control, obtaining or providing the appropriate levels of peer review and sign offs.
  • Upskilling and training Core PMs on new technology and assist in integrating into established processes
  • Partner with LDI Core PM Technology Lead and Index Core PM Architecture Team Lead to ensure coding governance reviews and recertifications are undertaken in a timely manner

Skills and experience required

  • Solid quantitative background (at least BA/BS in IT, Computer Science or in a Technologyrelated field)
  • Strong focus on Python
  • Involvement in endtoend development process, including turning requirements into code, and facilitating successful testing and release into production
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Problemsolving skills and processoriented approach
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income markets beneficial
  • Knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin tools beneficial

Our hybrid work model
