**Job Purpose

  • To provide enabling support for a young male aged 17 with Asperger's Syndrome, Autism and ADHD.
Main Duties

  • We are looking to recruit a support worker/enabler to provide support for this 17yearold young male, to enable him to access ageappropriate activities and at the same time gain key life skills preparing him for the transition to adult hood.
The young person has a diagnosis of autism and ADHD.

Enabling support is required to promote independence and encourage him to access the community including the use of public transport.

The young man would prefer to make use of the train with the intention of progressing to other forms of transport as his independence grows.

The employer is looking for somebody with experience of supporting young individuals with Autism and ADHD and has an awareness of the mannerisms and behaviours that are associated with this diagnosis.


The young person has an awareness of risk and danger but as with all enabling support the expectation is that the support worker will keep them safe and free from danger at all times.

There are no healthcare tasks associated with this role.

  • Car driver is essential due to the rural location and the driver must be insured for business use.
Hours

  • 3 hours per week during all school holiday weeks, with some flexibility around which days of the week the support takes place.
Rate of pay
- £11.91 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.

Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid by employer in respect of activities.

Mileage will be paid in agreement with the employer.

Person Specification

  • The successful applicant must:
  • Have experience and a positive understanding of children with disabilities
  • Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs
  • Be able to respond patiently, positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour
  • Have a high degree of initiative
  • Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
  • Be flexible
  • Have a happy, positive and caring nature
  • Respect confidentiality
An Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS) is required, cost will be met by employer.
