The post holder will work with the Baby Friendly Lead, to develop and align the infant feeding offer within the Bedfordshire, Luton 0-19 and the Family Hub services as part of the Universal Public Health Nursing Offer.

This will include working in partnership with the Baby Friendly lead professional who is responsible for achieving and maintaining full BFI accreditation/sustain UNICEF accreditation with the Luton Family Hub model.


To provide specialist clinical leadership across the Health Visiting Service and take an active role in developing systems and practices that promote continuous improvement in service delivery which minimises harm to patients and improves patient experience & outcomes.


To engage in clinical practice at an advanced level and provide professional advice and support to staff members, colleagues and managers as required that is research based.

These clinical skills must take into account the NMC professional code of conduct and NMC scope of professional practice.


To lead in standard setting, clinical audit and benchmarking especially in infant feeding and relationship building in order to deliver evidenced based care.

To monitor and review quality standards, Infant feeding and breastfeeding/chest feeding at work policies, growth monitoring SOP and other guidance that is appropriate to the Baby Friendly standards across the Trust and Luton Family Hubs.


The post holder will not be directly supervised whilst managing their own caseload requiring them to have skills including assessing & interpreting client conditions, acting appropriately on these observations which may include child protection issues.

To form effective supportive relationships with clients with complex infant feeding problems and issues.

To be able to gather information that may be sensitive or complex and analyse it as part of a full assessment of a client's strengths and difficulties.

To undertake home visits/ virtual contacts to families who need support with infant feeding.


To carry out monthly audits of both families and staff within both CCS and Luton Family Hubs with support from the Baby Friendly team.

Gather feeding data which requires complex analysis, interpretation and comparison, reporting the outcome and action plan is required to the wider 0-19 team, infant feeding strategy group and UNICEF Baby Friendly team.

To work with colleagues and service users to identify the changing needs of the local population. To promote practices that are dynamic, efficient, innovative and continuously improved in its relevance and responsiveness to the needs of children and families


To actively develop and contribute to the Health Visiting Infant Feeding Baby Friendly services across Bedfordshire and Luton in line with national and local guidance e.g.

Healthy Child Programme 0-5 & 5-19, Children and Young People's plans, Every Child Matters, Children's Centres.

Support the development of service guidelines and policies for HV and Luton Family Hub practice in relation to the Baby Friendly standards
