Description
***- To be responsible for setting the strategic direction and the day to day leadership of the Credit Operations team that supports the lending services for the Private Banking and Commercial Banking propositions. The primary objective is to optimise the operational and support areas of the Bank in order to deliver a high quality service to Arbuthnot Latham clients and to manage the key third party mortgage portfolio servicing relationship.
Operational Leadership

  • Provide effective leadership of the credit operations function
  • Operate and manage in accordance with business strategy
  • Develop and maintain an effective organisation structure of own area that meets current and anticipate future business needs
  • People management, motivation, performance management & development, including managing through others, in line with Bank policies and standards
  • Set strategic direction achieving cost efficiency, productivity and risk avoidance/compliance on an ongoing basis
  • Evaluate the overall performance of Credit Operations

Operational management

  • Develop and maintain an effective suite of operational services required to support the credit areas of the Bank ensuring these develop and grow with business needs
  • Service delivery of a first class capability, achieving cost efficiency, productivity and risk avoidance/compliance on an ongoing basis

Risk & control

  • Champion the risk culture in the team, ensure procedures are fit for purpose (to internal & regulatory standards) documented understood & used, controls are suitable and effective, testing and sample checking is undertaken and remedial action taken
  • Ensure own and team adherence to business policies and standards
  • Demonstrate compliance with the Supplier Management Framework, in activities such as the tender process, risk assessment, contract management and management review meetings.
  • Ensure business continuity plans are in place for all critical and key service providers.
  • Regularly review supplier invoices in order to ensure compliance with contractual agreements, and identify any anomalies. Processes should be documented where necessary.

Operational infrastructure

  • Optimise use of and deliver value from operational and IT infrastructure
  • Deliver efficient processes that meet the balance of needs between maximum client experience and maximum efficiency within an agreed risk appetite
  • Ensure effective collaboration with internal and external suppliers and partners to meet business needs
  • Ensure appropriate delivery of service levels from key service level providers through relationship of service levels from key service level providers through relationship management and monitoring of SLAs, KPIs and complaint levels on a monthly basis.

Planning and business improvement

  • Develop and maintain a plan for the function that supports the business and is alighted with business strategy
  • Drive internal projects and local continuous improvement
  • Ensure area operates to agreed time equality and cost parameters
  • Maintain an awareness of relevant external and competitor trends and use to drive improvements

Service quality

  • Ensure delivery of a seamless client service
  • Actively and continuously drive service and quality standards front to back
  • Champion the brand and related standards
  • Act as the conduit and manager of communications
  • Own and maintain relevant intranet & website content and business documentation
  • Ensure regular review meetings are held with all suppliers and management information is obtained and reviewed in order to ensure effective performance.
  • Ensure oversight and monitoring of key performance and risk indicators for supplier relationships

Team admin

  • Oversee and monitor the collation of KPSs/MI, analyse trends and proactively drive remedial or improvement actions
  • Track, monitor and follow the progress of action items that emanate from internal committees as detailed in the Bank's Governance Manual in order to ensure that key deliverables are achieved within set time frames
  • Collate, prepare and distribute appropriate briefing materials for key deliverables, ensuring that appropriate followup actions are taken

Key Interfaces

  • Head and Directors of Private and Commercial Banking and Head of Credit
  • Managing Director and Heads of Functions and relevant reports, senior and middle management of Arbuthnot Latham Co Ltd
  • Support AL subsidiary businesses and work with them to ensure operational SLAs are adhered to
  • External suppliers and with lead responsibility for our Mortgage Portfolio servicing supplier

Essential knowledge/experience

  • Extensive operations and credit business knowledge
  • A background at a management level in a comparable type and size of business
  • Extensive experience of the range of operational aspects of a Wealth Management business
  • Demonstrable track record in developing and delivering operational services
