A Jewish organisation based in London, NW8 is seeking to appoint an experienced individual who is enthusiastic & hard-working to join their team with particular responsibility for managing and maintaining of the financial records (both income and expenditure).The individual will be the primary point person for members and suppliers regarding financial matters.
Hours: 24 hours per week
Salary:
£30K-£32K ( £46K-£50K pro rata)
PURPOSE OF JOB:
- The post holder will be responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of the financial accounts and other financial records.
- You will be the first point of contact for financerelated queries from members and other stakeholders and deal with all requests in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
- The post holder will provide proactive, efficient, and professional financial administrative support to the volunteer Financial Representative of the Synagogue, delivering a high level of customer service including overseeing Membership Subscription Collections,donations and income from hall hires etc
SCOPE OF JOB:
- The Financial Controller is a new position created to be responsible for all aspects of the financial arrangements of the Synagogue.
- The greater part of the role will be to manage and maintain the efficient operation of financial accounts and other financial records.
- The post holder will use their accounting systems and processes, and report to the volunteer Financial Representative of their organisation.
- FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING (Income and Expenditure recordkeeping, reconciliations and resolutions)
- To have regular contact and support the team of office staff, Kindergarten, Hebrew School, volunteers and Honorary Officers to ensure the constant flow of communication and the financial aspects of delivery of organsiation activities
- Completing and maintaining all general ledgers in accordance with agreed accounting policies and principles
- To work closely with the head office Finance and Membership departments, building strong relationships and efficiencies
- BUDGETS, PROCUREMENT AND FINANCIAL REPORTING
- To work with the wider team to prepare a draft annual financial budget in conjunction with the Financial Representative
- To maintain and oversee the approved annual budget against actual income and expenditure, proactively highlighting variances and proposing actions to the Financial Representative
- To work with the wider team to prepare specific budgets for each event.

- To assist the Financial Representative with Ad Hoc financial requests (including special projects) and management reporting
- Monthly liaison with the Financial Representative in relation to debtors
- To work alongside all stakeholders to establish and implement procurement policies and procedures (including regular monitoring of compliance) with the objective to achieve cost savings, efficiencies and improved quality
- CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
In acceptance of this position, the post holder is required to take a proactive approach to their own continuous professional development and to attend training and/or learning and development events as appropriate.

Skills:
- Excellent numeracy and accounting skills
- Technically strong with the appetite and ability to learn new systems when needed
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Demonstrable skills in time management and planning
- Strong IT skills and substantial experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, together with intranetbased systems and databases
- Skilled at delivering a consistently highquality customer focussed service
- Respectful of the needs of the organisation and its ethos and values
- Process oriented and results driven Knowledge
- Knowledge and extensive experience of accounting
- Some knowledge of Jewish customs and practices
