Job summary:


The purpose of the post is to ensure the programme of curriculum reform and its rollout is driven by expert and professional advice.

The Curriculum for Wales is a paradigm shifting programme that depends on new concepts about curriculum and assessment which are specialist in nature.

The post will lead on the development and delivery of policy as well as providing advice on the programme of reform more generally.

The post sits as part of Curriculum Realisation within the Curriculum, Assessment and School Improvement division.

The team is tasked with supporting schools to realise the new Curriculum for Wales and to deliver technical concepts within it as well as ensuring the Curriculum framework evolves over time to support this.


The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Leading on the continuing development of policy on a national approach to curriculum design and its link with progression and assessment
  • Leading on the translation of the findings of the National Network into clear, tangible policy aims and deliverables
  • Supporting the implementation of the Curriculum for Wales, ensuring it is underpinned by expert understanding of the Curriculum for Wales and of specialist concepts in education, including processorientated curricula and progression.
  • Overseeing the development of a longterm cycle of curriculum refinement

Key Responsibilities/Tasks

The postholder will:

  • Lead development and oversee delivery of ongoing Welsh Government policy for Curriculum design, working with other leads to collectively own policy on schools' design of curriculum, progression and assessment

This will include:

  • Ensure the ongoing success of the National Network policy group, providing direction and ownership of how outputs of the National Network informs education policy:
  • Responsible for the co-ordination and leadership of the

National Network Policy Group:
planning, chairing and facilitating discussions with professionals to analyse feedback from National Network Conversations; develop recommendations
