About The Facility
The Wellington Hospital is the largest independent hospital in the United Kingdom.

This has given us the opportunity to develop in many specialist areas, including Cardiac Services, Neurosurgery, Liver and HPB Medicine, Acute Neuro Rehabilitation, Gynaecology and Orthopaedics.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the International Relations Department at The Wellington Hospital as International Patient Co-ordinator.


This is a critical role in providing a professional and efficient interpreting service to the hospital; ensuring cultural needs of overseas patients are recognised and satisfied.

You will provide an administrative and liaison service to patients, consultants and third parties

You will ensure international patients have funding agreed prior to admission, ensuring appropriate paperwork is provided to Patient Admin.

In this role, you will participate in shift system to provide a service from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, 7 days a week.


Duties & Responsibilities
You will carry out interpreting, written translation and patient liaison duties as below:

  • Examine admission lists and plan work accordingly
  • Welcome and escort patients for who English is not a first language, explaining the facilities and procedures within the hospital
  • Provide accurate and objective translation of medical messages, discussions & conversations between patient and hospital personnel
  • Monitor patients understanding of information and issues
  • Assist patients and staff to complete a variety of forms e.g. consent, medical history
  • Provide support to immediate family members ensuring full communication of information
  • Provide advice to hospital personnel on relevant cultural and religious beliefs which may affect health outcomes or create cross cultural conflicts
  • Provide cultural awareness training to groups of staff
  • Liaise with embassy's and health offices to request letters of guarantees to assist with customer billing
  • Liaise with consultants regarding medical reports and discharge summaries ensuring that these are provided to third parties within the agreed timeframe
  • Assist in dealing with complaints ensuring they are directed to the appropriate manager
  • Assist in hosting visits from embassy staff and overseas VIPs
  • Provide sensitive and caring liaison point for the patient to discuss needs or concerns
  • Undertake written translation of leaflets, individualised exercise sheets, handouts, reviewing Arabic literature and website

Skills & Experience

  • Appropriate qualification in interpreting or extensive experience in a similar environment desirable
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English and Arabic with excellent communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Comprehensive understanding of cultural and religious issues affecting the administration of patient care
  • Knowledge of anatomy and understanding of medical terminology in both Arabic and English
  • Good customer care skills and organisational skills
