Qualified Psychological Wellbeing - Mental Health Practitioner (PCN/HTT)


Havering Talking Therapies is an excellent service to work for - we are regularly able to retain our trainee clinicians and have staff working with us for over 10 years.

We have GREAT development initiatives in the service where we offer Assistant Senior PWP roles, IAPT Therapy Assistant posts and Honoray Assistant psychologists - 12 months posts.

We are very keen to develop our clinicians to the optimum level so that they are able to move upwards or onwards and grow in expertise and skills.


This is a 12 month fixed term post, with the probability of a permanent post at the end of the contract with Havering Talking Therapies.

The Psychological Wellbeing -Mental Health Practitioner will be based at GP practices within the North PCN and receive line management and clinical supervision by Havering Talking Therapies (IAPT) senior clincians.


You will be providing high volume low intensity interventions which will include cognitive behavioural theory and practice through the provision of 6 sessions of guided self-help mainly face-face and some telephone.


They will be able to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of issues relating to mental health and mental health problems and an understanding of Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Therapy.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London


This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum pro rata).

The main responsibilities of the post:

This new role and merger between Havering talking therapies and North PCN will see the PW-MHP be responsible for delivering one to one sessions, triages to North NPCN patients identified as having MH issues i.e., low mood, depression, anxiety etc.

and will support the patient/client to develop their personalised treatment plans.


The PW-MHP will play a critical role in engaging patients and use Step 2 CBT techniques to support them to take an active role to improve their health.

Treatment can be delivered on a one-to-one basis either face to face, via telephone or online.

  • The PW-MHP role would provide a combined 1:1 & CBT therapy, triage and liaison function, with the aim of:
  • Increasing capacity of IAPT standard mental health provision in primary care
  • Supporting focused mental health clinics held in GP Surgeries
  • Supporting shared decisionmaking about selfmanagement
  • Facilitating onward access to treatment services
  • Reviewing referrals not accepted and plan next steps
  • As qualified and appropriate, providing brief model (NICE Guidance) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions.
  • Facilitating/encouraging access to a wider range of mental health resources in the developing NTs

The role will offer:

- triage, Cognitive behavioural therapy treatment, consultation and liaison

  • Delivery of brief interventions
  • Liaison with the NPCN team
  • Assess and support people with common mental health problems principally anxiety disorders and depression in the selfmanagement of their recovery
  • Use a range of step psychological interventions and skills to support individuals with their mental health problems
- undertake patient-centred triages which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
- identify areas where the person wishes to change how they feel, think or behave
- carry out thorough risk assessments during triage.
- provide a range of evidence-based psychological interventions including guided self-help based on cognitive behavioural therapy, online psychological treatment programmes and psycho-educational groups and workshops
- liaise with other agencies and provide information about services such as employment and housing to patients

  • Refer to HABBIT, ARD
  • MHP for onward referral purposes.
- work closely with other healthcare professionals including high intensity therapists, IAPT counsellors and employment advisers
