Applications are invited for the position of M+E Clerk of Works within The Engineering Services Group.


You will work within the Engineering Services Group of the Facilities Residential and Commercial Services (FRCS) department and you should have experience of working within the Construction and Mechanical and Electrical Services related industry working on a variety of projects.

You will report to the Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineer and form part of the Engineering Services Group led by the Head of Engineering Services Group within the Capital Projects Team under the stewardship of the Director of Capital Projects and Estate Strategy.


You will provide support to colleagues of (FRCS) on construction works within the Capital Projects Team, which includes maintenance related projects, overseeing the process of projects being managed by the University¿s approved consultants and contractors, as well as mechanical and electrical alterations/improvements and minor value capital projects, with a wide range of value bands.


You will work closely with FRCS Capital and Minor Works Project Managers, Mechanical and Electrical Consultants and Maintenance Surveyors to ensure projects are delivered to acceptable standards, within the agreed programme and within the approved budget allocation in a safe way following the Health and Safety policies of the University.

You will plan, programme, arrange and supervise the new Mechanical and Electrical installation work across the entire University estate. You will ensure all work is designed, installed and commissioned in accordance with University standards.

The main purpose of this role is to support the Senior Mechanical and Electrical Engineer in delivering quality mechanical installation work across the University.

You will work closely and develop working relationships with both internal and external designers to ensure designs comply with University requirements.


You are required to carry out regular site inspections to ensure that the Mechanical and Electrical services installation on construction projects are carried out in accordance with the project contract specifications and drawings, ensure that Mechanical & Electrical services are correctly commissioned by contractors with any issues identified and reported to both the University Project Manager, Consultants and the Contractor, assist with the handover process to ensure that buildings Mechanical and Electrical services are fit for purpose when handed over to University departments and FRCS.


You will have experience in a mechanical and electrical environment and experience of supervising groups of multi-disciplinary, technical, staff and external contractors.

You will be capable of working to tight deadlines and be proficient in your knowledge of Mechanical Regulations.

You should have a degree or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience.
