Starting salary of £31,794 per annum, increasing to £33,468 once deemed as competent

About the Role


Reporting to the Network Supervisor you will act as a coordinator for Key Hole/Vacuum excavator within the South part of the East of England.

As a part of your role you will be keeping the process efficient and productive and you will be supporting repair in delivering a wide range of work types while leading in some specific areas within Herts and Beds.


Your day to day duties will include:

  • Attending gas escapes to locate, make safe and repair as appropriate
  • Isolation of mains and services
  • Meter control valves and exchanges
  • Syphon pumping, valve repairs, mains/leakage surveys, ancillary work on the network
  • Groundwork
  • Excavations and reinstatements
  • Utilising appropriate signing, guarding and lighting
  • Ensure cable avoidance
  • Supervision of Keyhole team's and vac drivers
  • Programming of escapes for further work
  • Service laying and connections
  • Manage and coordinate work programmes, including the deployment and promotion of Keyhole technology and techniques
  • Project management including project managing larger/specialist activities
  • Regular stand in supervision (up to 50% of time spent at work)
  • Input to, and interpretation of MI reports, eg. Released work log, rolling planner, closures due, keyhole savings tracker, SharePoint.
  • Planning and completion of activities within a defined timescale
  • Identification of keyhole opportunities
  • Promotion of keyhole activities
  • Creation of work packs for all keyhole jobs
  • Ordering of consumable and damaged items of equipment
  • Work with highways authority to agree perimetry
  • Working closely with outside stakeholders

About You

  • Managing and prioritising your own workload
  • Self motivated with the ability to motivate teams to deliver the work plan
  • Good customer skills
  • Ability to work as part of the wider gas distribution team
  • Enthusiastic, with the ability to promote keyhole / Vac truck technology to a wider audience
  • Competent in the use of the computer tablet and repair programmes
  • Ability to collate, manipulate and analyse data
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to provide support and guidance to team members
  • Good problemsolving skills

Knowledge and Qualifications Required
***- GN02 Main laying

  • EM72, 74, 7
  • NRSWA Units, levels 1 to 6, &
  • ELR trained
  • Good knowledge of OSGEM
  • CP on deep ex permits desirable
  • HGV licence Required
  • Previous experience at Supervisor level preferred (team leader)

Essential Requirements

  • A full valid UK driving licence
