Full Time Permanent role

We are delighted to be assisting our family based, very successful and established client as they seek to recruit a full time Food Production and Manufacturing Manager to join their team on site in Burgess Hill

Duties and responsibilities:


Responsible for the efficient and effective running of the manufacturing and packing departments, along with the maintenance and despatch teams.


Actively manage the factory teams to deliver high manufacturing standards against customer audit standards, site & compliance to the BRCGS standard to retain minimum A Grade.

Key position for the management of activities which ensure food safety, authenticity, legality and quality

Actively lead and participate in Lean manufacturing improvements and site continuous improvement plans.

Play an active role in developing staff and implement correct training standards.


Ensure the Production Management teams coordinate staff according to production plans, optimising the plant efficiency whilst managing waste and other direct costs.

Ensure team performance is managed and is effective through direct communication and frequent review meetings

Responsible for production planning to ensure correct stock levels are maintained to meet agreed service levels. Actively run/participate in group planning meetings.

Attend site health and safety monthly meetings and play an active role in any health and safety projects.

Where appropriate, attend external and internal meetings as requested by the Managing Director, to include contact with key customers.


Proactively support new and existing product development, work with the new product development team to develop new products and drive innovation.


Work with the projects team and engineering team to deliver key projects in line with agreed return on investment and on budget.

Ensure that Time & Attendance system is managed, and issues are resolved promptly and appropriately.

Conduct investigations and disciplinary hearings concisely in line with company policy.


Act as a coach and mentor to all staff, promoting good team work and conducting appraisals for all deputy / direct manager reports**
Health and Safety:Meet all personal and role responsibilities as required under the company health and safety at work policy, and proactively promote Health and Safety throughout the business.


Ensure a safe working environment for all employees, including temporary staff, visitors and contractors by strict enforcement of the H&S Policy.

Proactively manage any workplace accidents ensuring full investigations are undertaken.

Carry out regular H&S observations and audits on the shop floor and surrounding areas.


Food Safety, Quality and Hygiene:

Implement the required site standards to achieve high manufacturing standards across food safety, hygiene and factory environment and managing non compliance's effectively with direct reports

Ensure factory is always audit ready and working to a high standard.

Be part of the site HACCP team.

Possess a high understanding of the quality systems and ensure that they adhered through regular audits and checks.


Understand the trace-ability process ensuring that all food safety incidents are fully investigated and that corrective actions are effectively closed to stop re occurrence.

Manage the manufacturing teams to meet companies KPI targets and actively implement corrective actions to reduce non compliance's.


Key competencies and skills required:

Communicate to a high level in English (both Verbally and in writing)

Good level of numeracy

IT literate :
able to produce concise reports to support communication

Report and explain production results

Effectively conduct meetings to discuss production plans and any other relevant information, based on data and KPI's

Work closely and effectively with all support functions and departments

Good food manufacturing experience essential

Good understanding & able to demonstrate people management skills

Clear grasp of process management and a methodical approach

Good knowledge of automated equipment

Good presentation skills

Good level of mathematical aptitude
